How to Do Jack Step
- 1Setup
Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, arms relaxed at your sides. Ensure your core is lightly engaged and your gaze is forward.
- 2Setup
Maintain a slight bend in your knees, ready to move dynamically.
- 3
Step your right foot out to the side, about shoulder-width, while simultaneously swinging both arms up overhead.
- 4
Return your right foot to the starting position, bringing your arms back down to your sides in a controlled motion.
- 5
Immediately repeat the movement on the left side, stepping your left foot out and swinging your arms overhead.
- 6
Bring your left foot back to the center and continue alternating sides in a fluid, rhythmic pattern.
Tips
- Coordinate your breath with your movement: inhale as your arms come down, and exhale as your arms swing up.
- Keep your movements light and controlled, landing softly on the balls of your feet to minimize impact on your joints.
- Maintain a slight bend in your knees throughout the exercise to absorb impact and stay agile for quick transitions.
- Engage your core to stabilize your torso and prevent excessive side-to-side sway, which helps maintain balance.
Common Mistakes
- ×Slouching or rounding the back reduces core engagement; keep your chest up and shoulders pulled back throughout the exercise.
- ×Using only small, restricted movements limits the cardiovascular benefit; aim for a full range of motion with both legs and arms.
- ×Holding your breath can lead to premature fatigue; focus on consistent, deep breathing to support your aerobic effort.
