How to Do Neck Flexor Stretch
- 1Setup
Sit or stand tall with a straight back, relaxed shoulders, and your head in a neutral position.
- 2
Slowly and gently tilt your head backward, allowing your chin to point towards the ceiling.
- 3
Continue tilting until you feel a gentle stretch along the front of your neck and under your chin.
- 4
Hold this extended position for the prescribed duration, breathing deeply and consistently.
- 5
Carefully return your head to the starting neutral position, avoiding any sudden movements.
Tips
- Keep your shoulders relaxed and down, avoiding any shrugging towards your ears to isolate the neck stretch.
- Breathe deeply throughout the stretch; controlled breathing helps relax the muscles and deepen the stretch.
- Move slowly and gently into and out of the stretch to prevent any sudden strain or discomfort in your neck.
- If you wish to deepen the stretch slightly, gently push your jaw forward as you tilt your head back.
Common Mistakes
- ×Forcing the stretch too aggressively can cause neck strain; instead, move gently into the stretch until you feel only mild, comfortable tension.
- ×Holding your breath reduces relaxation and effectiveness; remember to breathe deeply and consistently throughout the duration of the stretch.
- ×Shrugging your shoulders can reduce the intended stretch on the neck flexors; keep your shoulders relaxed and down away from your ears.
