Description

A front snap kick is a powerful and fast kick that is performed by lifting the knee and snapping the foot forwards. It is a common move in kickboxing.

How to Do Front Snap Kick. Kickboxing

  1. 1
    Setup

Begin standing tall with your feet hip-width apart and your hands up in a protective guard position near your chin.

  2. 2

Shift your weight slightly to your non-kicking leg and lift your kicking knee high towards your chest, bringing your heel close to your glute (chamber position).

  3. 3

Extend your knee forcefully, snapping your foot straight forward, aiming to strike with the ball of your foot towards your target.

  4. 4

Immediately retract your foot by bending your knee again, bringing your heel back towards your glute to prepare for recovery.

  5. 5

Place your kicking foot back down to the starting position, maintaining your guard and balance, ready for the next kick or movement.

Tips

  • Focus on chambering the knee high and quickly snapping the foot out, then rapidly retracting it to maximize speed and power.
  • Engage your core throughout the kick to maintain balance and generate more force from your hips, ensuring a stable foundation.
  • Keep your hands up in a protective guard position to shield your head and maintain balance while executing the kick.
  • Exhale sharply as you snap your foot forward, which helps to engage your core muscles and increase the impact force of the kick.

Common Mistakes

  • ×Dropping the guard during the kick compromises protection and balance; always keep your hands up and tight to your face.
  • ×Kicking with a straight leg reduces power and can strain the knee; always chamber your knee high before snapping the kick to ensure proper technique.
  • ×Not fully retracting the leg after striking can lead to instability; snap the foot back quickly to regain balance and be ready for the next action.
